Starting To Seem Real!

Many have asked me how the kids are feeling as Sept. 17th comes closer. Well, today I think the reality of it all kind of hit them in the face!

While I worked my job in the cities, the kids spent the day with my mom. My sister Melissa, who has been in Minnesota for the last few weeks was set to fly out to New York City-her new home. They all got to take her to the airport-a fun outing for all.

But, tonight when we were driving home one by one they starting talking about how being at the airport made them think about how fast this adventure is coming.

For Tobie it was how big the planes were-now he is not sure a LONG plane trip sounds so fun.

For Caleb it was thinking about how much we don't know about what it is like to live in a third-world country.

For Annica is still seems surreal (although that wasn't the word she used-considering her exceptional homeschool education I am sure it could have been.) We have been talking about it for so long she can't quite wrap her mind around the fact that in 18 days we will be leaving this side of the world-not to return until it is cold and Christmas songs dominate the radio waves. Hmmmm-that reminds me-I should pack up our winter coats and bring them to my parents so when we return in our sandals and t-shirts we can make it home without frostbite.

As for me-the details of packing and preparing what needs to be done before we leave dominate my thoughts. I imagine I will sink into my seat on Delta Flight 258 on September 17th and then I can begin to mentally embrace all that God has in store for us.

  1. Tobie was so full of questions when we went into the airport. Very curious about how it was going to work - the bags, the ticket, the lines, etc. He really wanted to see a plane and since I was flying out of Humphrey we got to see a plane take off and taxi away.

He asked me how many days I was going to be on the plane to New York. 2 hours for me. 2 days for you guys! Exciting times, but holy cow - you're going to live in Tanzania!

I was nervous getting on the plane and for the few days before. I feel a like I'm living in a foreign culture here in NYC. But soon I'll have something figured out and the nervousness will pass. I'm sure it won't take long to find something that feels normal in Tanzania. Even if it is having a blankie or a shirt or a picture or a snack that feels like home.

Happy travels. Can't wait to hear more!
